I really wanted to like this book. The title and premise sounded so promising. The author writes well and her humor and quick wit are definitely appreciated, although that was mostly utilized when it involved the animals. Unfortunately that didn't help the book enough. There was no one in this whole book that was really likable. Journey (and the animals) was the only character I had any kind of affinity for. Everyone in Journey's and Cameron's lives was selfish, especially Journey's family. Even Cameron was selfish, self-centered and cowardly. He was too old to still act like that at almost forty years old. The whole town was a hot bed of eavesdropping, gossiping idiots and the book would have been immeasurably improved without the addition of the character of Bailey who was the worst. This story just highlights the destructive and hateful nature of gossip under the guise of friendship. The story was too long and full of angst to be enjoyable. It also had some editing problems, missing words, words double used, etc., but that was minor compared to how depressed it made me. I finished it, but I couldn't wait for it to be over. I was taken by surprise when I opened this book. The characters hooked me from the get-go. First of all, I had no idea what Coddiwomple meant, but I knew that I would love it, and I wasn't disappointed when I held off on Googling. The title is perfect for these characters.JJ is funny and a sympathetic foil, and Cameron is everything I could want in an adorable veterinarian. I don't want to spoil anything in this book, but if you loved the humor in the Spookology series, you'll enjoy every page of Coddiwomple.
